Dr. Yaseen Aslam is licensed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in both the UK and with Dubai Health Authority in the UAE. He is the psychiatrist and the Medical Director at The Lighthouse Arabia and was born and raised in Manchester, United Kingdom.
From a young age, he has always been fascinated with human behaviour, relationship dynamics and all that pertains to the very essence of what defines the human condition. His innate interest in the workings of the human mind developed and gained further momentum during his medical training as an undergraduate in London. He became drawn to the field of Psychiatry as it encompassed a diverse range of eclectic disciplines traversing both the arts and the sciences. He passionately believes that in order to ameliorate the symptoms of mental distress, one needs to combine the principles of art and science, adopting a global and holistic approach to understanding the individual and their psychopathology.
He believes that the role of a psychiatrist is unique and highly privileged. A strong ethos of altruism and professionalism are at the core of my practice.
He has gained over twelve years experience in the field of mental health; he has worked in the UK National Health Service for over eight years before gaining a full time substantive post as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a Specialist Inpatient Service in the private sector. He was elected a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2005 and was entered onto the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council, United Kingdom in 2009.
In addition to his clinical work, he has acted as an expert witness in the British Crown, Civil and Family Courts and has been an examiner of undergraduate medical students at the University of Manchester (UK).
Dr. Aslam has a broad range of expertise in general psychiatry with a special interest in mood disorders, psychotic illnesses, personality disorder, eating disorder, substance misuse and addiction and ADHD.
